Beyond her trademark hairstyle and classy dresswear Mariza has been hailed as one of Portugal’s most outstanding fado voice. She has helped to bring this unique Portuguese style into the 21st century. Her 2001 album "Fado ein mim" had critics comparing her to Amalia Rodrigues, yet Mariza has moved out of the shadow of the Portuguese diva and her live performances brought the era of static fado to an end. Ironically, the Mozambiquan-born singer first dabbled in funk and soul music before she was discovered by musician/producer Jorge Fernando. Her broad tastes in music have opened new musical spheres and invited collaborations with the likes of Cesaria Evora, Sting and Maria Joao. After her album "Fado Curvo", Mariza went to Brazil to compose her 2005 release "Transparente". The live CD/DVD “Concerto em Lisboa” shows her talent onstage. In November 2006, she fulfilled a lifelong dream by performing at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
